Visiting Rhode Island on Your Next Road Trip

Rhode Island, the smallest of the 50 United States, is situated in the southeastern corner of New England. You'll enjoy its more than 400-miles of winding shoreline and thousands of acres of parks. Best of all, it's easily accessible from several large metropolitan areas ‹ one hour south of Boston and 3 hours northeast of New York.

Newport soon prospered into a major seaport, with beautiful schooners and trade ships billowing into the harbor. By the beginning of the 1700's, Newport was one of the five major ports of the new Atlantic colonies. It's nickname is "America's First Resort".
