Whitehorse is the home to the Old Log Church Museum. The building itself is worth a visit. In Whitehorse, it is the oldest structure of its kind still existing in its original location. It is also a splendid history museum, with exhibits and interactive programs emphasizing the Inuit and First Nation cultures, whaling, missionaries and the development of the Church in the north. At this time admission is free.
While staying at a Yukon Territory campground near Whitehorse take the family to the Beringia Interpretive Centre. This unique facility will take you on an exploration of a prehistoric, frozen world with mammoths and scimitar cats. The museum is well worth the visit and admission is reasonable.
You could easily spend your whole Yukon Territory camping vacation in and around Whitehorse. But the Yukon Territory has so much more to explore and see. To the east of Whitehorse at Watson Lake you will find the Northern Lights Space & Science Centre. Open since 1997 the Centre is the only one of its kind in northern Canada. If your Yukon Territory camping vacation is taken during the summer months then this is a must see. This unique facility showcases the beautiful Northern Lights daily through the summer season in its state-of-the-art domed theatre. (The show is preformed in the sky during the winter months.)
Watson Lake offers plenty of hospitable Yukon Territory campgrounds. The Lake is great for fishing and swimming. Watson Lake in the summer is breathtaking. The sparkling water, lush vegetation and blue skies are unbeatable.
Most of northern Canada is accessible only by air. As you RV the Yukon Territory on the paved highway all the way up to Dawson you will see scenery that will take your breath away. And, the Dempster Highway is a gravel road which will take you through Eagle Plains north of the Artic Circle into the Northwest Territory.
