In the heart of Saskatchewan you will find one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Prince Albert National Park of Canada. . The park lies in a transition zone between the parkland and the northern forest. It protects a slice of the magnificent northern ‘boreal’ forest. The park includes the only fully protected white pelican nesting colony in Canada and it has a free-ranging herd of plains bison. Vast varieties of wildlife live and are protected in the Prince Albert National Park. Regina is the capital of Saskatchewan. The name “Regina” is Latin for “Queen.” The cities name was chosen in honor of Queen Victoria, who was the reigning monarch at the time. Regina is home to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Academy. All Mounties do their basic training at this Academy. The RCMP Heritage Centre is a great place to learn about the history of this famous force. The Chapel at the RCMP Academy Depot is the oldest building remaining in Regina, built in 1883. The Chapel contains the original pews and beautiful stained glass windows. Services are still held in this Chapel regularly.

While you RV Saskatchewan in the area in or around Regina, don’t miss the Wascana Centre. This is a beautiful man-made park that follows the curves or the Wascana Lake. The park was built in the 1930’s as part of a work project for the unemployed. Today, it is the city’s main recreation area. There are walking and cycling trails, a swimming pool and waterfowl ponds. The Wascana Centre supports a diverse and impressive marsh ecosystem. This is an exciting place for children to learn about wildlife and the environment as they take part in the Wascana Junior Naturalists program.

The Wascana Centre is also home to the Saskatchewan Science Centre, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts, the University of Regina and the Saskatchewan Legislative Building. Regina is definitely a place to plan on spending a few days at a Saskatchewan campground, there is so much to see.
