You can kayak and explore Mount Desert Island’s beautiful coastline. The town boasts one of the oldest golf courses in the United States. Bar Harbor has a special relationship with Acadia National Park. The municipality of Bar Harbor is actually a large portion of Acadia National Park. The mountains, islands and Atlantic Ocean create an atmosphere of peaceful beauty, the likes of which is hard to find. This is a great place to visit a Maine campground. The Acadia National Park encompasses 47,738 acres of picturesque rocky coastlines, granite mountains, lakes, ponds, and wildlife.
RV inland to Greenville, the gateway to Moosehead Lake, in the center of the North Woods to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the peace and beauty of Maine camping. The Moosehead Lake region is a paradise for nature lovers, with mountain biking and hiking, water skiing and white water rafting. Wildlife is everywhere, drive carefully. Maine campgrounds are seasonal, because of the extreme weather and road conditions in winter. Although, the winter would be as fun as the summer for vacationing, with dog sledding, cross country skiing and auto races on the frozen lake. Greenville and Moosehead Lake are truly beautiful playgrounds.
The capitol of Maine is Augusta. The State House is a beautiful building with a very long history. The building was originally constructed between 1829 and 1832. Since then the building has undergone multiple additions and remodels that have served to provide a more workable building and a masterpiece of architecture. The city of Augusta is home to the Maine State Museum which has exhibits that cover the history of Maine from the Paleo Indians and the wooly mammoths to present day. Probably one of the best attractions of Augusta is the Pine Tree State Arboretum. It has six miles of trails on which to hike and jog. Some of the trails are hard packed and wheel chair accessible. This would be a wonderful place to plan a picnic away from the city. Augusta would be an enjoyable area to include in your RV Maine itinerary.

The South Coast of Maine has some of the most enchanting beaches imaginable. The sandy beaches beside the beautiful blue Atlantic have swimming and lifeguards on duty from late June to Labor Day at most. Some of the beaches have designated areas for surfing but most have gentle surf.
Because of the extreme winter weather RV Maine vacations are normally done in the warmer months. If you choose to visit Maine in the snowy season you will have a lot of winter fun. Snowmobile trails are some of the best in the U.S. They are an Interconnected Trail System that is maintained by the Maine Snowmobile Association.
