RV Delaware and Step Back Through Time, While Having Fun

Fenwick Island Lighthouse, Delaware CampingRV Delaware and you will be surprised how much there is to see in this little state. Delaware is the 49th ranked state for land area in the United States. It is 96 miles long and the width varies from 9 to 35 miles for a total land area of just 1,982 square miles. As small as it is it still has plenty of Delaware camping.

This little state is a camper’s paradise. It has moderate weather year round with average temperatures ranging from 75.8 to 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Most of the days are sunny. The annual precipitation is approximately 45 inches. Delaware camping along the Atlantic coast is about 10 degrees warmer in the winter and 10 degrees cooler in the summer.

Delaware campgrounds are plentiful and the perfect base for tourist, just a 2-hour drive from Washington D.C., Philadelphia and Baltimore. The state has much to offer in its own right; Delaware was “The First State”. Its rich cultural heritage can be explored in its museums, monuments and homes built in the 1700’s.

Millbrook Village, RV Delaware In the northern section of the state is Wilmington. A must see is the Old Swedes Church constructed in 1668-1699. This is the nation’s oldest church building still standing without alterations. The church is still in use today and is under the jurisdiction of the Trinity Episcopal Parish. This wonderful old church has had upgrades through the centuries, for example the exquisite stained glass windows were added between 1885 and 1897. The churchyard is the resting place for at least 15,000 and is still in use today. Many of the oldest grave markers are long gone but there are markers to be seen that date back to 1726. RV Delaware to the central section and enjoy a tour of the state capital, Dover. On Dover’s historic Green is the Old State House, built in the old Georgian style, this magnificent building was in continuous government use for about 140 years. It is located next to The Golden Fleece Tavern where in 1787 delegates met and ratified the new United States Constitution making Delaware the first state in the Union. Dover is still the center of government for the state. The current Legislative Hall is also a masterpiece and well worth taking the time to tour.

The Douglas Falls, Delaware Campgrounds Swim in the Atlantic Ocean while staying at a Delaware campground near Rehoboth Beach. This relaxing stretch of beach has a mile-long boardwalk to stroll with eateries, arcades and retail shops for your pleasure. Swimming is pleasurable as the waves tend to be small and the water temperature is mild to warm all summer long.

Delaware camping toward the south of the state gives the visitor an opportunity to visit Laurel. This town has more historic buildings than any other town in Delaware. The National Historic Record list them at 800. Back in the late 1800’s Laurel was considered one of the wealthiest towns in the state, with 2,500 residents. The town now boasts a population in the mid 3,000 range. Water sports such as canoeing, kayaking, boating and pond fishing are available near by at the Trap Pond State Park.

RV Delaware for a look back in history, rich in preserved architecture, this state is a treasure. There are museums, golf, hiking, biking and swimming available near every Delaware campground.
