Lakewood Camping Resort
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina—From the moment you drive into oceanfront Lakewood Camping Resort, you'll know you are in a very special place. The Perry family has welcomed campers to Myrtle Beach since 1961. Everything has been specially planned for the convenience, comfort, and enjoyment of the camper with constant improvements and upgrading of amenities and recreation. Lakewood features over 1,900 campsites on 175 acres of natural beauty—all bordering one-half mile of white sandy beach and the blue Atlantic Ocean.

Registration is a breeze in this "world-class resort with a touch of southern charm." Guests enjoy the feeling of entering a luxurious living room with carpeting, flowers and beautiful wood treatments as they approach one of the several registration stations designed for the minimum of "waiting time". If you have to wait a minute, relax on one of the comfortable "sink-into" couches they have provided. There's even an express check-in if you prefer to remain in your vehicle.

After check-in, head for the three-acre recreation complex and decide what activities the family wants to try. On the agenda you'll find exercise classes, water aerobics and craft classes for both adults and children. A full schedule of children's' programs includes swim lessons, mini-golf tournaments and scheduled trips. In addition to the beach, Lakewood offers four stocked, freshwater lakes, indoor and outdoor swim pools (one has a waterfall!), a whirlpool, 18-hole mini golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, basketball court, a large playground and volleyball court on the beach. There are canoes, pedal boats and bicycles for rent, too.

The children will enjoy the large arcade with dozens of video games, pool tables and ski-ball. There is a lounge overlooking the ocean with a large-screen TV, tables, and a deck. Lakewood's full-time recreation director and the chaplain are available to provide potluck suppers, sing-a-longs, bible studies, and church services in the 500-seat theater overlooking the ocean. During the summer, the theater provides professional performances such as High Steppin' Country, Myrtle Beach's oldest country music extravaganza. When the family gets hungry, you can choose from three snack bars or the on-site, oceanfront McDonald's.

For an off-site excursion, you'll find Lakewood is conveniently located for shopping, flea markets, dozens of high quality miniature golf courses and world-class golf courses. Hundreds of restaurants offer a variety of cuisines including Myrtle Beach's famous all-you-can-eat seafood buffets. There are amusements parks, water parks and several country music theaters that rival Branson and Nashville.

Lakewood is located on Business US 17, 5-3/4 miles south of US 501 at 5901 South King's Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575-4997. For more information or to make reservations, call 800/258-8309. Credit cards are accepted, and reservations are recommended for school breaks and summer months.
