Lehman Caves
Five miles west of Baker at the end of Hwy. 488 [Great Basin National Park, Baker, NV 89311, (702)234-7331], with its natural entrance 7,000 feet above sea level, is one of the highest show caves in the U.S. It is noted for its numerous shields, a speleothem relatively rare in this country's caves, as well as the variety and large number of other colorful and shapely formations. Speleothems and chambers are unnamed to avoid creating what some park personnel call a fantasy tour approach; instead, tours cover cave life forms, man's impact on caves, cave conservation and how speleothems are formed. Temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Camping in the national park's four campgrounds.
