For the Ford Superduty trucks it is about 12% off the MSRP on the sticker. You have to subtract the shipping charge before you do this. I have found this to be real close in the price range from the invoice the dealer charges you. Also remember that under the X plan a dealer can not charge you documentation fees either.

I have bought two vechiles in the past 3 years and it makes it so easy to do. No price haggling or anything.

If you're looking at Ford and want another $500. rebate, you can join American Quarter Horse Association ($30 membership fee). Dodge has a similar thing ($500 rebate) for Farm Bureau members ($75 to join). I don't know of any for GM.... Does anyone else?

Yes, but you have to join the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, or Air Force to get $750.

BTW GM's supplier discount is below invoice and is a no haggle price. You tell them up front you get the supplier discount and they get the price off the invoice, which is less than the dealership originally paid. Obviously, GM compensates them so they do not lose money. The only way I know that you can get a better deal is if you get the employee discount. BTW rebates still apply. In my case I got the employee price and $4K in rebates from GM. A truck stickered at $31,000+ left the parking lot at under $25,000 including TTL.

phoneman,

You mentioned it was hard to find invoice price. Try edmunds.com or kbb.com. You can build your truck you want and it will list invoice and msrp.

I am currently looking at the Ford/GM choice as well. I have access to the X-plan and visited a local dealer. I looked at a F350 SRW PSD 4x4 (didnt have a DRW on the lot). The MSRP was around 47500.00. The sales rep looked up the X-plan and said it was 5800.00 less with the plan. He also told me to take off 2500.00 (Im guessing on the amount of the rebate) for the rebate and a 750.00 rebate for being retired military. Knocked it down to about 38450.00.

Then...

I visited a Chevrolet dealer where a previous salesman I had used before at a Mercury dealership now worked. He is very familure with the X-plan and assured me he could be competative. I also have a GM mastercard. The card gives you 5% of all purchases towards a new GM vehicle. I purchase all my groceries on it as well as pay insurance, SAT TV bill, Resturants, cell phone bill, etc. I pay the bill off every month and acrue no interest on the card plus there is no annual fee to have it. There is a set limit you can use towards each type of car or truck. Currently the max that can be put towards a new Sierra or Silverado is 2000.00.

I have also found a website that talks about "Dealer Hold Back". This varies by MFGR but is a "Built in profit" in the Invoice Price. GM and Ford are currently "3% of TOTAL MSRP. My understanding on this "Dealer Hold Back" is returned to the dealer as profit once the car or truck is sold. Knowing the amount of the Hold Back with some quick math on your own may help in the bargining.

Now saying all this about the "Dealer Hold Back", I have not yet put this to the test. However, My daughter sold cars for two years at a local dealer and was a little miffed when I talked to her about it. Her words were "That's not right, Your not supposed to know about that!" There has to be some truth to it...

Good luck, Happy hunting, and let us know how it goes! Bruce

I just bought a Chevy 2500HD and I am a Ford X-Plan customer. I shopped the Ford, the Dodge and finally the Chevy.

I preferred the Chevy, but as a long time owner of pick-ups I can tell you that all three are really nice. (The Hemi is COOOOOL).

I do a little research before I go to the dealer so that I know the MRSP of each vehicle I am interested in and the "dealer invoice" Go to MSN.COM auto section and you can price the vehilce. Ford and Dodge show you MRSP and invoice on their website. Chevy you can get form MSN and other sources.

When i am ready to buy I go to the dealer with a printout of the vehicle I want with "invoice" and MRSP price. The Ford dealer showed me the MRSP, Invoice, X-Plan and A-Plan price for the vehicle I was looking at. The Chevy dealer did the equivilent with the MRSP, invoice and employee price. No haggles, just straight forward service.

So what that leaves for them to do is try to buy your car (trade-in) at a bargin to make more money on the deal. So here is the other part of the strategy I use.

I go to the Kelly Blue Book site and find the trade-in value for my vehicle, I get the pay off for my loan, figure in the taxes, fees etc. I decide what I am willing to pay for the vehicle I want. (Invoice or X-plan). Then I go to one one of the Bank websites and calculate the payment with thier payment calculator.

Why? Because the folks that sell cars are good it putting money in the deal and making a lot more money then you realize. They will swamp you with information and bedazzle you with beautiful trucks. Next thing you know you got the new car for 500 less then invoice but you gave them your car and bought a $1200 bedliner. Been there.

So I go in, I know what thier vehicle is worth at invoice, what incentives are availible, I know what mine is worth and what my payments should be. I show them the numbers. (If you don't want them to play games don't play games either) and tell them what I am willing to pay a month in paymnets.

If I have a good salesman he takes my paper work (don't worry they will give it back) and tells me in about 15 minutes if he can work with that. If he says no, I go elsewhere.

And never, ever buy dealer add ons unless you know the real cost of them. Everything is negotiable, even the cost of the extended warrenty.

Good luck, if you need more help please contact me.
