How do the brass body padlocks stand up to the weather and abuse on a towbar?

They'll stand up fine. That's what the marine industry uses. The only real downside is brass is soft. Doesn't take much to cut them off.

Masterlock brand locks hold up very well too. Used them on trailers for many years. As long as you keep them lubricated, and keep the crud out of the keyhole, they'll likely outlast your toad.

I have been using the Master brand padlock on the tow bar and also the removable base plate assembly. Had to have the assembly custom made to fit the toad. Locks are standing up great. Have a four padlock system, keyed alike. Would recommend. Happy Camping.
