1. Chicago - Starting Point
Kick off your trip with a visit high above Chicago—over 1,400 feet high—in the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), the highest skyscraper in the North America. With 110 floors, it's a city within a city. Step into a glass box on the Skydeck Ledge and you'll feel as if you're suspended above the metropolis. When you're ready for terra firma, head down to the Corner Baker Café for an egg scrambler, homemade soups, rustic sandwiches, or a fruit-filled hand pie.

2. Pontiac - 98 miles, 1 hour, 38 minutes
From Chicago, take I-55 to Pontiac and a retro trip down one of the most popular roads in the country. Route 66 has been called the "Main Street of America" and a visit to the Route 66 Hall of Fame & Museum in Pontiac makes the Mother Road come alive with photos, exhibits and artifacts of the glory days when this was the way to see the U.S.A. It's a trip down memory lane with thousands of pieces of historic memorabilia showcasing one of America's richest cultural byways. Grab a quick bite at the Old Log Cabin Restaurant, which opened in 1926, the same year Route 66 began. Savor old time favorites like patty melts or chicken-fried steak.

3. Atlanta - 60 miles, 1 hour
Here's a sweet way to "get your kicks on Route 66," a stop at the Palms Grill Café in Atlanta. Originally opened in 1934, this place has atmosphere, and a whole lot more, including blue plate specials and handmade root beer floats, but save room for dessert. Will it be some homemade pie, hand-dipped ice cream, or luscious layer cake-topped off with a thick, creamy milk shake-—Ahh…
