Starting Point

The Capital of Idaho, Boise offers urban convenience and natural beauty. Sign on with a local outfitter to take a hot air balloon ride over the region or visit a microbrewery or winery. Check out the Basque Museum and Cultural Center to gain insight into the history of Basques in the region.

2) Mountain Home

Enjoy fishing, hiking and hunting in Mountain Home, or visit the Mountain Home Historical Museum, which is a 1908 Carnegie Public Library that's now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Take shorter hikes along the Emigrant Foothills Road.

3) Twin Falls

The largest city in a 100-mile radius, Twin Falls is home to Shoshone Falls. Known as the Niagara Falls of the West, this 900-foot-wide waterfall is fed by the Snake River and plummets 212 feet. Admission is $3 per car and picnic areas are available in the park.

4) Pocatello

Rich in railroad history, Pocatello became a transportation hub and is now one of the largest cities in Idaho. Tour the 12-block historic district or burn off some energy mountain biking along the area's than 1,000 miles of trails. Extreme sports fans can rock climb with a local outfitter.
