History and Culture
Mount Pleasant sits on the banks of the Chippewa River and was home to the Native American tribe of the same name for centuries before European settlers came to the area in the mid-1800s. Today the area has blended the two cultures into a new way of life. Every August, visitors to the area can see the annual Saginaw Chippewa Tribal National Pow Wow. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe Reservation is adjacent to Mount Pleasant and is a huge part of life in the city.

Museums
It stands to reason that in an area with as much history as Mount Pleasant, local folks would want to show it off a bit. The visitors to the area are the ones who benefit from it the most. From the Little Red School House, a one-room schoolhouse in Shepherd, to the Old Fence Rider's Historical Society, visitors wishing to dig into the past will have no problem finding what it.
If you have kids along for the ride, you'll have to check out the Children's Discovery Museum. This museum has 10,000 feet of friendly, accessible hands-on exhibit space that encourages kids to touch, feel and play with the exhibits that cover math, science and regional history.
