Golfing, fishing and boating in a community built for fun

If you're looking for a place to spend the winter that has a small town atmosphere, lots of golfing and boating and is as beautiful as any place can get, come to the Ozark Mountains in northwestern Arkansas. Come to Bella Vista.

Bella Vista, Arkansas, was made for recreation. No, really, that was its primary purpose when the town was created in the '60s. Today it's a safe, private community with 8 golf courses, 12 lighted tennis courts and paved nature trails surrounding the town. For a small fee you can become a member of the Property Owners Association and enjoy all that Bella Vista has to offer.

Retirement Destination
Bella Vista Village was recently named one of the top 4 retirement destinations in Arkansas by The Wall Street Journal's SmartMoney "Retire Here, Not There." Bella Vista also was ranked one of America's Top 10 Healthy Places To Retire by U.S. News & World Report and one of the Top 25 best places for affordable homes in the United States by CNNMoney.com.

Golf
Let's talk golf for a moment. Bella Vista has six beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf courses and two 9-hole executive courses awaiting your arrival. You need to try them all. Start with the Tanyard Creek Practice Center, where there are two indoor bays, a launch monitor to assist with golf club fittings and three PGA golf pros on hand to help you with your swing. Move on to the Highlands Golf Course or the Dogwood Hills Golf Course, each of which offers exciting terrain and lots of water and sand. Finish the day with a nice dinner at the Bella Vista Country Club and then back to the links for a sunset round.

There are many more courses for you to explore in Bella Vista, including the Berksdale Golf Course, Brittany Golf Course, Branchwood Golf Course, Highlands Golf Course and Scottsdale Golf Course.

Pools, Tennis Courts and More
Bella Vista has two outdoor pools and one indoor pool available for use by members and their guests. The indoor pool is located at the Branchwood Recreation Center. Here you'll find a 15-meter pool that's heated to a cozy 86 degrees year-round. The Recreation Center offers water aerobics, lap swimming, water walking and, of course, open swims for kids and their families. At the Branchwood Recreation Center, you can also find a fitness room, hot tub and racquetball court.

Two outdoor pools are found at Metfield Park and at the Kingsdale Recreation Facility. The Kingsdale facility has three pools to cool off in. The largest is the multi-use pool that has a sliding board for kids and offers swimming lessons and general swim for kids and adults, the adults only pool that has a handicap ramp and gives four different aerobics classes. The Kingsdale complex also has a small wading pool for young children.

The Metfield Park Pool is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is equipped with sliding boards, a wading pool area and a zero depth entry. Metfield Park also has two pavilions, the perfect size for a family reunion or birthday party. There is also playground equipment and an 18-hole mini golf course. Kids can take advantage of the basketball court, shuffleboard and two tennis courts.

Speaking of tennis courts, in addition to the courts found at Metfield Park, you can also visit the tennis courts at the Kingsdale Complex. Here you'll find eight lighted courts and a fully stocked pro shop. There is also a tennis pro at the pro shop that will help you perfect your backhand.

Lakes, Boating and Fishing
For boaters, Bella Vista is the perfect location. Bella Vista has seven private lakes and a marina for members. Each lake is unique, but each shares the lovely Ozark Mountain beauty that you can only find here. The lakes offer different amenities like water skiing on Lake Ann and Lake Windsor, canoeing or paddle boating on one of the "no wake" lakes like Lake Brittany or Lake Rayburn. Do you like to fish? Bella Vista lakes provide anglers with the opportunity for small-mouth bass, crappies, blue gill and sun fish just to name a few.

If you'd like to dock your boat, you can check out the Loch Lomond Marina. This full-service marina offers long- and short-term boat slips, gas, bait and fishing licenses. If you don't have a boat, you can rent one here. You can also rent kayaks, pontoons and fishing boats. Employ a guide service to find out where all the big ones are biting.

Activities for the Kids
If you have your kids or grandkids with you, there are lots of activities for them throughout the summer. Send them to summer camp at Camp Bella Vista, which offers a slew of fun things to do. Kids can also go to tennis camp or golf camp to learn a new skill or enhance what they've already been taught. Kids can also take swimming lessons.

Surrounding attractions include the renowned Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.
