Camping Blooper
Newbie Parking Brake Blunder
After determining all was ok, I jumped in the truck again. Same problem. I started to say a few choice words under my breath and jumped out again to make sure I didn't forget the chocks or something else that might keep me from moving. Nothing. After about 30 minutes of this, I went to the camp manager to ask for help (imagine the loss of pride at that point). He came over with some tools, and we checked out all the connections and couldn't find anything. My 13–year son at that point asked me if the parking brake was on. I replied back, "Of course not. Don't you think your Dad would check that first?!" I happened to look at the dash board when he said that and noticed the light for the parking brake was illuminated. Of course, after releasing the brake, everything moved as it should have. I turned to my sarcastic son and gave him the fatherly evil eye and had to eat crow with him and the park manager. I really felt like an idiot but probably a common mistake for newbie RVers. Both my kids reminded me of this at every stop for the entire return trip to Utah.
