Look No Further Than Dry Tortugas National Park for Florida Camping with Plenty Water Activities
Dry Tortugas National Park is located in the Florida Keys. With rich, beautiful coral reefs, plentiful sea life, shipwrecks and legends of pirates and treasure, it is a wonderful Florida camping destination. Actively used as a military outpost from the 1860’s through the 1930’s, Dry Tortugas National Park has a rich military history. Designated a national park in 1935 by President Roosevelt, it entertains over 80,000 visitors a year. Accessible only by seaplane or boat, it is a remote and unique park.

The park is open year round, but Fort Jefferson is only open during daylight hours. Bush Keys is closed February through September to protect nesting Noddy and Scooty Terns. There is an entrance fee of $5, which is good for seven days. The National Parks Pass is $80, valid for one year from date of purchased, and will grant access into most national parks. The best time to visit is November through April. The hottest and most humid months are the summer months, and insects quite a nuisance. The sea tends to be rough October through January. Regardless of when you visit, Florida weather tends to be hot and humid. Be prepared.
There is a lot to do when visiting Dry Tortugas National Park. Since the majority of the park is underwater, it is a prime location for boating, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. Kayaking is a great way to get around to the many small islands throughout the park. It also offers a chance for more private snorkeling adventures. There are many guided tours for fishing, snorkeling or diving, wildlife viewing, and sailing. Since the park is only accessible by boat or plane, be sure to bring along everything that you will need, including plenty of fresh water! There are no convenience stores in this park; it is truly and wonderfully wild.
