Visiting Manitoba on Your Next Road Trip

Canada is a prime destination for U.S. RVers. Not only does beauty abound but Canada welcomes RVers. (Read more about crossing into Canada by RV.) West of Ontario lies Manitoba, one of the three Canadian prairie provinces. Manitoba campgrounds and Manitoba RV camping resorts welcome RVers from its own province or from outside the region with open arms.

Often overlooked for the intimate beauty of its eastern neighbors and the mountainous provinces to the west, Manitoba has much to offer visitors no matter what they're looking for.
In Manitoba's northernmost reaches, along the desolate shores of the Hudson Bay, is the "Polar Bear Capital of the World," Churchill. The best way to see these majestic, albeit sometimes feisty animals, is by experiencing one of the area's many buggy tours to view the bears making their way to their favorite feeding grounds along the banks of the Hudson Bay. At Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site, along the Churchill River, visitors may glimpse one of Canada's greatest wonders, the aurora borealis, as it dances across the nighttime sky. This is a must-see event. Call Manitoba campgrounds ahead to make reservations for camping and see if they offer package deals to this event.

Rising high above the surrounding prairie in southern Manitoba sits the Riding Mountain National Park. This 1,500-square-mile park was granted National Park status in 1930, and it doesn’t take long to realize why. Three different and diverse ecosystems (prairie, grassland and forest) converge within the park’s boundaries, creating a dynamic environment for visitors. The park is a favorite among summer vacationers in nearby Winnipeg, so it may get crowded during the peak season. Manitoba RV camping resorts certainly fill up, so call ahead for reservations!
