A recreational vehicle, or RV, is a motorized or towable vehicle that combines transportation and living quarters. RVs do not include mobile homes. Following are specific types of RVs and their approximate retail prices.

Towables

Travel Trailer
Ranges from 12 to 35 feet in length, and is towed by means of a bumper or frame hitch attached to a car, truck or SUV. Prices vary from $10,000 to $66,953.

Fifth-Wheel Trailer

This unit can be furnished the same as the conventional travel trailer, but is constructed with a raised forward section, allowing for a bi-level floorplan. Ranges from 21 to 40 feet in length. This style is towed by a truck equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch. Prices vary from $12,495 to $101,550.

Folding Camping Trailer

Also known as a pop-up trailer, this lightweight unit has collapsible canvas sidewalls that fold for towing by a motorized vehicle. Ranges from 15 to 23 feet when opened. Prices vary from $3,545 to $12,425.

Truck Camper

A truck (or pickup) camper is designed to be loaded on and affixed to the bed or chassis of a truck. Ranges from 5 to 13 feet in length. Prices vary from $3,885 to $24,745.

Motorized

Class A Motorhome

Constructed on a bare, one-piece, specially designed motor-vehicle chassis, the Class A is the largest, most-luxurious conventional motorhome. Ranges from 21 to 40 feet in length. Prices vary from $57,505 to $693,000.

Bus Conversion

Also known as a custom coach, a bus conversion is a high-end Class A motorhome, usually characterized by a diesel-pusher chassis. Ranges from 40 to 45 feet in length. Prices vary from $350,000 to $1,400,000.

Class C Motorhome

Known also as a mini-motorhome, this unit is built on an automotive-manufactured van frame with an attached-cab section. The RV manufacturer completes the body section containing the living area and attaches it to the cab section. Ranges from 20 to 32 feet in length. Prices range from $48,100 to $139,900

Camping Van Conversion

Also called a Class B motorhome, this unit is built on a panel-truck or cargo-van chassis, which the RV manufacturer customizes to include living accommodations. Ranges from 16 to 21 feet in length. Prices range from $42,650 to $73,600.
