So you’re all excited about staying at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park, Maryland?

You should be, because in addition to the park itself, you ought to see what’s going on nearby!

Yep, when you stay at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park (don’t you love saying that?), you’re only about ten minutes from Boonsboro, Maryland. Rumor has it, you can turn your family into colonial and Civil War era history buffs in a matter of minutes, just walking around Boonsboro. There you’ll find the very first monument ever erected to George Washington, built in 1827. After you stare at that awhile, you’ll discover the restaurants and shops are just wonderful, too.

You and yours will find the entire historic downtown of Boonsboro well worth exploring, particularly the Boonsboro Museum of History. It’s loaded with over 5,000 years of collections of all kinds of historical objects, and even ancient artifacts. And you can bet you’ll see a terrific selection of colonial and Civil War relics. After you’ve gained history buff status, maybe you’ll want to investigate the local nature scene.

Then, let’s say it’s a warm day. Slip into the Crystal Grottos Cavern. It’s like you’re in air conditioning, hand made and designed by Mother Nature herself. Only with this air conditioner you get to be surrounded by tons of stalagmites and stalactites (big pointy dripping limestone things paired up and and down in case you’ve forgotten your grade school science).

Only fifteen minutes from Yogi Bear Jellystone Park is Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Now we’re talking quaint upon quaint layers of pre-Revolutionary War charm, as in brick sidewalks and flowers everywhere. The flowers are just considered part of their norm. You or your kids may justifiably think, “Are we inside a postcard here?” It’s just lovely, with all sorts of little shops and restaurants to enjoy, as well as arts and crafts festivals and live theater performances. This place is flat out cool!

But, you’ll finally get sleepy and Yogi Bear Park is calling you home, where you’ll find an almost embarrassing amount of pure joy waiting for you and your kids. There’s the Bear Cave video room, the Water Zone, the Ranger Smith pool, awesome playgrounds, ponds and pavilions. You’ll also appreciate the choices among economy, standard, and preferred sites.

Check out Yogi Bear Jellystone Park. Your family will thank you for it.
